Your data stays
your data.

The short version

Lumen runs AI models on your Mac. Your conversations, prompts and files stay on your computer. Lumen has no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, and we don’t receive your data.

1. What Lumen does not collect

The Lumen app does not collect, send or store your conversations, prompts or answers on any server of ours. It needs no account, email or sign-in, and it includes no analytics, telemetry, crash reporting or advertising. We don’t sell or share any information about you, and we don’t operate any server that the app sends your data to.

2. What Lumen stores on your Mac

Lumen keeps the following only on your Mac: AI models you download or import (~/Library/Application Support/Lumen/Models), your settings, launch settings for coding tools (~/Library/Application Support/Lumen/Launch), and a list of running model processes used to clean up after a crash (runners.json in the same folder).

Chat conversations are not saved. They exist only while Lumen is open and are discarded when you clear the chat or quit the app. You can delete everything by removing Lumen and the ~/Library/Application Support/Lumen folder.

3. When Lumen connects to the internet

Lumen works offline. It only connects to the internet when you ask it to:

Downloading models from Hugging Face. When you download a model, Lumen connects to Hugging Face (huggingface.co) to find and download the file. Hugging Face receives standard request information, such as your IP address and the file requested. Its own privacy policy applies.

Servers you add yourself. If you connect Lumen to another AI server, such as Ollama, LM Studio or any OpenAI-compatible server, your prompts are sent to that server. If it runs on your own Mac, nothing leaves your computer. If you enter the address of a server on another computer or an online service, your prompts go there, and that server’s own policies apply.

4. The local API

Lumen includes a local API, by default at http://127.0.0.1:11535, so other apps on your Mac can use your models. It only accepts connections from your own Mac and refuses requests from websites and other computers. Lumen doesn’t log the content of these requests.

5. Coding tools and other apps

The Apps tab can open third-party tools such as Claude Code, Codex CLI and OpenCode, connected to Lumen’s local API. These tools are made by other companies and are not part of Lumen. They may connect to their own services, for example for sign-in, updates or usage data, under their own privacy policies. Lumen only provides the connection settings; it doesn’t change how those tools handle data.

6. Importing from Ollama

If you choose Import from Ollama, Lumen copies model files from Ollama’s folder on your Mac into Lumen’s folder. This happens entirely on your Mac.

7. Apple

macOS may send crash reports or diagnostics to Apple if you’ve enabled that in your Mac’s settings. That’s controlled by macOS, not Lumen, and Apple’s privacy policy applies.

8. This website

This website uses no cookies, analytics or trackers. If you switch between light and dark appearance, your choice is saved in your own browser and never sent to us. The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes basic technical information such as IP addresses to deliver and protect it, under Cloudflare’s privacy policy. If you email us, we use your email only to reply.

9. Children

Lumen isn’t directed at children and doesn’t knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.

10. Changes to this policy

If Lumen’s handling of data changes, for example if we add update checks, we’ll update this policy and change the effective date above before the change takes effect.
